Catholic Social Teaching

Striving for a Culture of Life in a Just World at Peace
Thank you for visiting the Archdiocese of Seattle’s resources for Catholic Social Teaching. Archbishop Brunett has called the Church’s teaching on justice and life issues “earthshaking … it pertains to the essence of being Catholic.” He has also said that “when we understand Catholic social teaching as an integrated whole, and not a specialty area, we are faithful to the Gospel. If we don’t do that, we compromise the credibility of the Gospel itself.”
Seven Key Themes of Catholic Social Teaching
· Life and Dignity of the Human Person
· Call to Family, Community and Participation
· Rights and Responsibilities
· Option for the Poor and Vulnerable
· The Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers
· Solidarity
· Care for God’s Creation
