Creative Expression and Contemplative Practice A Palisades Summer Lectio Divina Retreat For Men & Women July 12-14, 2009
This retreat will offer a combination of presentation, contemplative experiences of prayer, and guided methods of creative expression. Participants will be guided in the practice of lectio divina and then in accessible art-making focused on the process and the journey of discovery. The retreat will focus on this rhythm of contemplation and creativity and the insights it offers us into the active movement of God in our lives. No previous experience with lectio divina or the arts is necessary. There will be both small and large group opportunities for sharing as well as time to rest in the gifts of silence. Christine Valters Paintner, PhD is the Program Coordinator at the Ignatian Spirituality Center and an adjunct faculty member at the School of Theology and Ministry at Seattle University. She is a Benedictine Oblate with St. Placid Priory and lives out monastic spirituality and practice in the heart of Seattle. Christine co-authored Lectio Divina: Contemplative Awakening and Awareness which was published by Paulist Press and loves bringing the gifts of both contemplative and creative practices to others.
Women's Silent Preached Summer Retreat Jesus and the "Nervy" Women in the Gospels “Amen, I say to you, wherever this gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be spoken of, in memory of her” Matthew 26:13 Aug. 21-23, 2009
This is a traditional, silent, group retreat with large group conferences offering formation in faith. Time is provided for individual and communal prayer, spiritual reading, reflection, and devotions. Opportunities are also available for the celebration of the Eucharist and Reconciliation. We will begin with Registration at 5:00 PM on Friday followed by Dinner at 6:00 PM and the first presentation at 7:00 PM and end after Lunch on Sunday. Fr. Dave Rogerson is the pastor of Holy Innocents Parish in Duvall and St. Jude Parish in Redmond. He has deeply enjoyed a variety of ministry situations including various western Washington parishes, Kennedy and Eastside Catholic High Schools, and Mount Angel Seminary outside of Salem, Oregon. The richness of the Church’s diversity, tradition, and people nourishes and sustains him. He finds it important to connect our every day lives with our God-guided spiritual journey.
Companions On the Journey Retreat Faithful Living with Chronic Illness, Injury or Disability Sept 20 & Sept 27 - Sundays 1:30pm - 7:30pm (includes two dinners) A Retreat in Two Sessions for ones affected and their care givers Chronic illness, injury or disability enters our lives as an uninvited and unwelcome guest and remains. The door to life as we knew it was slammed shut. And through it all, how do we faithfully journey with God, our spouses, our family and our community? There is a common foundation from which faith-filled answers come. We have companions on this journey. The retreat is a special opportunity to come together with others that have similar, yet unique stories. As you explore your own story, you will be able to name the wisdom that God has formed in you through your journey, whether you are the one affected or their care partner. As we share our stories in the retreat, a collective wisdom will begin to emerge. Presentations by: Marsha and John Baumann. Marsha was diagnosed with MS in early 1999. She is an active volunteer with the National MS Society and has led local workshops about assisted technology, participated in advocacy efforts with legislators, and shared her journey as part of industry sponsored seminars. Actively involved in music ministry at the time of her diagnosis, she has been able to continue this passion and leads a music group at her parish. John has a Master of Divinity degree from the School of Theology & Ministry at Seattle University and is a pastoral associate. Pastoral care has been a primary area of ministry and he has worked with individuals, couples and families dealing with chronic illness. In June 2009 he will be completing graduate work at Seattle University in pastoral psychotherapy.
The Sacred Art of Living and Dying Transforming Suffering in Ourselves and Those We Serve October 16, 2009 (1 day) A thousand years ago monasteries created a remarkable ministry to assist persons dealing with suffering, illness, and death. This workshop based on the ancient wisdom called the “sacred art of dying” offers a practical and inspiring tradition that is also pastorally and clinically sound. Learn how this sacred work applies as much to the sacred art of living as it does to the end-of-life. More information is available by contacting the Palisades. Register now! Presentations by: Richard Groves is an internationally popular speaker and is recognized as an authority in the field of death and dying. He brings a desire to make the connection between what is sacred in one’s life with the practice and work of one’s life. Richard has earned graduate degrees in theology, ethics, pastoral counseling and law. He speaks nine languages and has been a professor, hospital chaplain, spiritual director, and executive director of hospice.

These retreats will be directed by guest Retreat Directors arranged for by the staff of the Palisades.
Faith Sharing Retreats (Not Silent) – For those who do not want a silent retreat, but want a retreat focused on faith-sharing with large group presentations, small group discussion, opportunities for communal and individual prayer, and social interaction at meals and/or at other times of the day. These retreats are often focused on a special interest group that comes together to reflect on a specific topic or particular life issues.

- Non-Directed Private Retreats – You are welcome to come on a non-directed retreat, with individual prayer and no large group presentations. You will have lots of time to pray, walk on the beach, read in the library, walk the outdoor Stations of the Cross or sit in the rose garden. You will also have time to rest, reflect and encounter God and allow God to encounter you.
- Individually Directed Retreats – A retreat with spiritual direction usually lasts two or three days. You may also schedule retreats of longer duration. This retreat can be made individually or with a companion. In order to organize a Directed Private Retreat, you MUST contact Sr. Joyce Cox, BVM, The Spiritual Formation Director, who will help you with scheduling and additional information. The additional suggested cost of $35 per session for Directed retreats is a fee that should be discussed with the Spiritual Director.
