2010 CALENDAR OF RETREATS (Last Updated - 3/4/2010)
All retreats include opportunities for Mass, private prayer, communal morning and night prayer, outdoor Stations of the Cross, Rosary and other devotions.
These retreats take place in a peaceful, natural setting of 39 secluded acres of woods, on a beachfront bluff overlooking Puget Sound, with steps to the beach, nature trails and a meditation garden with waterfalls.
The retreat center includes a simple contemplative chapel, a spacious water and mountain views dining room with generous buffet style meals, 55 beautiful guest rooms with private baths, conference rooms to accommodate groups of various sizes, each with water and/or forest views, and a comfortable library with fireplace.

Reliving the Paschal Mystery of Jesus March 26-28, 2010 A Men & Women's Palm Sunday Silent Retreat Retreat Format: This retreat, taking place over Palm Sunday weekend, will be a guided, silent, group retreat for men and women, with scripture-based presentations, offering guidance for prayer and discernmen. Silence, solitude and ample time for individual and communal prayer and reflection allow for a deepening of one’s connection with God and self. Opportunities are also available to celebrate the Eucharist and Reconciliation.
Retreat Director: Fr. Armand Nigro, SJ entered the Jesuits after graduating from Gonzaga Prep in 1944. Ordained in 1956, Armand did tertianship at Port Townsend and went on to complete his PhD in Philosophy at the Gregorian. Fr. Nigro has also been actively involved in leading retreats and writing books on Christian living even when he was carrying a full teaching load. He has preached Roman Catholic Christian Spirituality in all parts of the globe including Australia and New Zealand, China, Africa, Latin America, Europe, Iran, Israel, India, Pakistan, and all over the United States and Canada. His broad experience, gentle wisdom and tireless sense of mission have served the faithful, whenever and wherever called. Generations of religious and lay faithful have found him to be a fountain of wisdom and a heart that radiates Christ’s love. His current work with parish missions and as a retreat director further testify to the energy and spirit Fr. Nigro has brought to his ministry over these past 50 years as a priest.
 A Holy Week Journey of the Heart March 30-April 1, 2010 (Tuesday - Thrusday) A Men & Women's Holy Week Silent Preached Retreat
Retreat Focus: This will be a guided, silent, group retreat for both men and women, with scripture-based presentations focused on the experience of Holy Week, offering guidance for prayer and discernment. Silence, solitude and ample time for individual and communal prayer and reflection allow for a deepening of one’s connection with God and self. Optional small group faith-sharing provides connection with others. Opportunities are also available for the celebration of the Eucharist, confession and individual spiritual direction. Retreat Director: Sr. Joyce Cox, BVM, is the Spiritual Formation Director for the Palisades and Far-A-Way Retreat Centers. Sr. Joyce is a reflection day and retreat director to religious and lay women & men as well as to parish and school staffs. She is a spiritual director, theologian, educator and a developmental psychologist. She provides fresh insights into prayer and spiritual growth.
The Sacred Art of Living and Dying Transforming Suffering in Ourselves and Those We Serve April 7, 2010 (1 day) A thousand years ago monasteries created a remarkable ministry to assist persons dealing with suffering, illness, and death. This workshop based on the ancient wisdom called the “sacred art of dying” offers a practical and inspiring tradition that is also pastorally and clinically sound. Learn how this sacred work applies as much to the sacred art of living as it does to the end-of-life. More information is available by contacting the Palisades. Register now! Presentations by: Richard Groves is an internationally popular speaker and is recognized as an authority in the field of death and dying. He brings a desire to make the connection between what is sacred in one’s life with the practice and work of one’s life. Richard has earned graduate degrees in theology, ethics, pastoral counseling and law. He speaks nine languages and has been a professor, hospital chaplain, spiritual director, and executive director of hospice.
Holiness Our Walk in HIS Footsteps Developing the Attitudes of Christ A Silent Preached Retreat for Men

Retreat Presentors: Rev. John Madigan was born in Ireland - Co. Limerick. He was ordained for an Irish diocese in June 1974 but came on loan immediately to Seattle. That was meant to be for a few years but he never went back, becoming a priest of the Archdiocese of Seattle by 1980. He has been pastor at Immaculate Heart of Mary, Kelso; Assumption, Bellingham; St. Brendan, Bothell; St. Stephen the Martyr, Renton and currently Holy Rosary, West Seattle. He has a deep conviction about the transformative power of the spiritual life. Brian Casey, serves the people of God as a proclaimer and a teacher of the Word of God with conviction, enthusiasm and humor. He has a reputation for being a very spiritual and dynamic speaker whose sessions are both inspiring and challenging. He is very effective in leading individuals into a deeper renewal of their of their faith, thereby enabling them to experience a more profound and very personal relationship with the Lord. His message of unconditional love, mercy and forgiveness, simplicity, living without fear and anxiety and in the nonviolence of Jesus, stems from a very gentle and compassionate spirituality - a spirituality which is based upon our Lord’s Sermon on the Mount. Brian and his wife, Peggy, have been married since 1963, and they have three adult married children and are grandparents. - Beginning Experience Weekend is a Friday evening to Sunday afternoon program for adults grieving the loss of a love relationship through death, divorce or separation, who are ready to come to terms with their loss and begin to move forward with their lives.
BEGINNING EXPERIENCE The purpose of Beginning Experience is to facilitate the grief resolution process for adults and children who have suffered a loss through death, divorce or separation, thereby enabling them to again love themselves, others and God. We accomplish the purpose by offering quality, copyrighted, grief resolution programs presented by trained peer ministers. These programs are designed to move grieving people through a transformational process to a new beginning in their lives. |

We invite you to participate in one of these Beginning Experience retreats at the Palisades Retreat Center in Federal Way, WA. |
Preached Silent Retreats – A silent, group retreat with scripture-based presentations, offering instruction in a variety of faith-related topics. Time is provided for individual and communal prayer, spiritual reading, reflection, and devotions. These retreats will be directed by guest Retreat Directors arranged for by the staff of the Palisades.
Faith Sharing Retreats (Not Silent) – For those who do not want a silent retreat, but want a retreat focused on faith-sharing with large group presentations, small group discussion, opportunities for communal and individual prayer, and social interaction at meals and/or at other times of the day. These retreats are often focused on a special interest group that comes together to reflect on a specific topic or particular life issues.
Private Retreats must be scheduled at lease two weeks in advance and are scheduled on an individual basis as space is available. Please print the Private Retreat Registration Form. fill it in and send it to the Retreat Center for processing.
- Non-Directed Private Retreats – You are welcome to come on a non-directed retreat, with individual prayer and no large group presentations. You will have lots of time to pray, walk on the beach, read in the library, walk the outdoor Stations of the Cross or sit in the rose garden. You will also have time to rest, reflect and encounter God and allow God to encounter you.
- Individually Directed Retreats – A retreat with spiritual direction usually lasts two or three days. You may also schedule retreats of longer duration. This retreat can be made individually or with a companion. In order to organize a Directed Private Retreat, please contact Sr. Joyce Cox, BVM, The Spiritual Formation Director, who will help you with scheduling and additional information. The additional suggested cost of $40 per session for Directed retreats is a fee that should be discussed with the Spiritual Director.
Individually Directed Retreats must be scheduled with Sr. Joyce Cox at least two weeks in advance and are scheduled on an individual basis as space is available.
